About The Woodsmith Enterprises Team

Ruben Figueroa, who is the owner/manager of the Woodsmith Enterprises team, talks about how he was inspired to start his business and describes the inspiration that he uses to manage the team that works for him to produce every Woodsmith Enterprises project.

“I can remember, like it was yesterday, the woodshop at Saint Mary's Recreational Center across from where I lived growing up in Bronx, New York. One day I found myself exploring the Center and the smell of fresh cut woods from the shop was all it took to get me into a simple woodworking project-- and I have been hooked ever since!

Taking woodshop classes, reading trade publications, and following this passion wherever it leads, has been an amazing and challenging journey. As a result, I have learned through experience how to produce a quality piece of furniture. In my opinion, a real craftsperson puts their heart and soul into each creation and this is truly evident in the sweat, blood, and effort that go into each and every detail.

When I begin a piece, the "fascination with wood" starts all over again. How does the final piece come into being? How do the raw materials form into a thing of beauty? How does each creation become appealing and unique in its own right? I have come to an understanding that one of the magic ingredients is a part of the craftsperson and his team that stays within the final product.

My intention is, always, to meet the needs of the clients. That is, to make a piece that is both, functional, beautiful, and well built. I am filled with joy when the client is thrilled with the final product. After working with wood for over 30 years, I can honestly say that I enjoy it more today than when I walked into that shop as a ten-year old boy. "He was on time and on budget"

Hello – I understand that you asked Ruben Figueroa for references and I’m happy to give my opinion of his workmanship and professionalism. I would highly recommend Ruben and have already passed along his name to my friends needing a carpenter.
I hired him recently to create a rather large entertainment center. First of all, I was impressed that he showed up at my house on time and on the agreed upon date – I’ve had bad luck w/ other contractors who could not be counted on.
Ruben measured the space, we brainstormed on some design issues (bi-fold doors, vs. pocket doors) and he was able to turn around a quote very quickly.
Ruben had an open door policy and my husband and I visited his studio several times during the production process. The entertainment center was delivered on time and on budget. I’ll also mention that the job was not an easy one. The top of the piece is curved, instead of straight – several carpenters we spoke to could not create this look – they didn’t have the right tools or didn’t have the experience. Our piece also had fabric that needed to be attached to the shelves and the doors were shutter-style, which is time-consuming work.
Overall we loved our experience in working with Ruben and we love our finished product. Good luck w/ your decision.

"... Magnificent and gets many compliments"

I see that you are considering using Ruben for your cabinets-
Let me say that first we had him build us a large display cabinet in our living room with glass shelves and glass doors to display our crystal and collectibles. This also had over head lights- I am sure that he will be kind enough to show pictures of this- I cannot, off the top of my head remember the dimensions but I do believe it was in the neighborhood of 12-14 feet wide and 7 to 8 feet high.
Magnificent and gets many compliments-
Second we had him add 2 cabinets to already existing cabinets in the family room as well as change-out existing doors to full glass viewing.
Considering that the original cabinets were over 12 years old- he did a remarkable job of matching mica as well.
I also asked him to repair one of my kitchen cabinets that held two pull out drawers with pots in them. The weight of the pots pressed the side of the cabinet out causing the track to buckle. He came up with an excellent solution, which has worked well.
My wife and I would not hesitate to utilize his services again.
